Sarah Burney
Sarah has been a part of the dance world for over 28 years. She began dancing at the age of three and by the age of twelve, she was training each summer in Los Angeles on scholarships, with some of the top choreographers of that time such as Mia Michaels, John Crutchman, Wade Robson, and several others. Travel, performing, and training became her life. She was the four-time winner of West Coast Dance Explosions Edge Performing Arts Scholarship, and in 1998 and 1999 she was also presented with Star Light Productions and LA Underground's Performer of the Year, as well as the LA Agent Award. In 2001 Sarah began college in Chicago, Illinois where at the end of her term, she acquired a degree in Interior Design/Architecture. She continued to dance throughout her college, training at Lou Conte Dance Center. After graduation, she was privileged to be able to work with amazing educators and choreographers such as Sonya Tayeh, Brooke Pierotti, and Chris Jacobsen. She began her career as a teacher and choreographer in 2004, and later was working with several companies all over the country, while assisting Brooke Pierotti. Sarah was featured as the Co-Director for the national award winning Xtreme Dance Force Jazz Division in the June 2009 issue of Dance Teacher Magazine. During that time she was also a contracted choreographer and master class instructor for several other studios in the Chicago area. Sarah is currently a faculty member for the Street of Dreams Dance Convention, Impel Dance Workshop, and VOICE Summer Intensive, and has adjudicated for several competition circuits. In 2010 she began her own pre-professional dance company, Prevail Performing Arts, in hopes of educating the young dance generations about the passion for the art as a whole, and to remind them that the performance is far more important than the prize. Currently she is teaching across the country and has set national award winning pieces for several studios. Sarah is thrilled to continue educating young artists about what truly inspires them to move, and to embrace the process in which dance is created.
